Partial Denture Fabrication at Gulfside Dental

The first step to a healthy smile is to visit a preferred Naples dentist.

A removable partial denture, also called a removable bridge, replaces some teeth that are missing in a jaw, It is anchored by the remaining natural teeth. This is a good option when not all of your teeth need to be removed.

Partial dentures can be beneficial in these situations:

  • To replace missing teeth
  • To preserve your remaining natural teeth
  • To help you chew food more naturally
  • To improve speech
  • To maintain good oral health
  • To enhance self-esteem with a confident smile

Partial dentures are usually fabricated with acrylic teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base. There may be a metal framework and clasps that connect to and are supported by the remaining healthy teeth.

Some partial dentures have special attachments, called precision attachments that eliminate the need for metal clasps. They attach either internally or externally into a tooth that has a crown and are more natural looking than metal clasps. These attachments are designed to put less stress on the anchor teeth that support the partial denture, but may require extra crowns on your natural teeth for a more precise fit.

Inserting and removing the partial denture will require some practice, but it should fit into place with relative ease. On average, you can expect a partial denture to last about five years.

Here at Gulfside Dental we also offer flexible partial dentures or combination metal and acrylic clasps. You and your dentist will discuss what type of partial denture fits your needs.
